Scientific and strategic consulting includes a broad range of activities, and the many consulting firms and clients often define these practices very differently. One way to categorize the activities is in terms of the professional’s area of expertise (such as modeling and simulation, clinical and medical development, as well as clinical pharmacology). But in practice, as many differences exist within these categories as between them. Consulting is also considered a process. There is a purpose driven approach; and clarity about problems to be solved for the client may determine the relationship’s success. Three diverse speakers will present their perspectives on consulting. Rajesh will present an MIDD approach to decision making. Vis will reflect on the role of the consultant chief medical officer. Vikram will present on the pharmaceutical perspective. All three will also reflect on the soft skills necessary for consulting to be an effective negotiator in sensitive relationship environments.

1. To understand the nature of scientific consulting from the diverse perspective of 3 different subject providers, role of a clinical pharmacologist, a physician, and a quantitative scientist.
